I've just finished Web 2.0 and i must say i learned a lot. There is so much out there that I expected myself to know about, and didn't. Even things that I thought I knew were reinforced and explained over again through this program. For example, I knew about Wikipedia.org, but I had no idea about individual Wiki sites. Or Youtube, I think everyone my age goes on Youtube once a week if not once a day, but i didn't know that you could embed videos into your blog. The most mind blowing part of Web 2.0 ,for me, was Google Docs. I still cant get over how convenient the document sharing is.
This program was much more helpful than i thought it would be, to be honest. I'm glad i participated in it and i hope there will be more like this to come.

Craigslist
I've actually used Craigslist to sell something before. I like it. I use it. It works

Google Docs
This is awesome! This program would have helped me out so much while I was in High School. Group assignments would have been a breeze. I admit Google Docs takes a little getting used to but once you have it you're in the clear.
Library Wikis
I've just searched through a couple of library's wiki sites. I like the option on SJCPL's wiki , where they had books broken down into separate catagories like local authors and history related mysteries. I also like Princeton Public Library's Wiki because they have an entire index of their book reviews.
I think that PPL had a good idea having an indexed book review section. I think somthing like that would be a good addition to our library's site.
If we made a Wiki with a section of book reviews, or movie reviews, or a list of events happening at the library,I believe patrons would be more inclined to visit our library.

Finding Your Own Feeds
I found that the best way to find feeds, if your looking for feeds specifically is to use Google Reader's search tool. It has a large list of feeds. I especially liked that there was an option to subscribe to multiple feeds at once by subscribing to a feed bundle.
I tried some other feed search tools like Technorati and Syndic8 but i prefer Google's method

RSS Feeds
Our own library has it's own way of dealing out feeds. The library catalog has it's own specific feeds that it offers. This differs from searching on Google Reader by limiting what you can choose from. This could be a good thing, because people log into the library's website for library related material; book reviews, upcoming book releases, new movies ... For any patron looking forward to instant access to the information they want, this is a wonderful idea on the library's part.
Google Reader
Okay so here is something I just learned. There is a service by Google called Google Reader, which you can use to get feeds to all different kinds of things. I signed up for a few science feeds, a few music feeds, and a weather feed or two.
In my first science feed I read an interesting article about how being envious can actually cause you physical pain. It's actually really interesting. For more information you should read the article yourself:

Ride the Suffolk Wave
The Suffolk Wave website has a ton of material free for download. I downloaded Volcanoes of the Deep Sea by Stephen Low and Ed Harris. The quality of the movie was pretty good, better than i expected actually. The initial process was simple enough, a few clicks and downloads and your set. Most common computer users should have no problem following the directions.

Broadcast Yourself
Youtube is quite frankly one of the best inventions this generation has to offer. It's ingenious , take something, anything and share it with the world. Unfortunately there are some people who think every waking moment of their lives is worth sharing, but that might be the only downside to Youtube.
Maybe the library could implement a feature on it's website where local, library-related events could be shared via video.

Library Thing
So there is this website called Library Thing, In it you can create your own virtual library and can share book suggestions with friends and others who share your interests.
I personally am not a fan because I'm not too much into reading. However the assignment was to create my own catalog, so here it is:

MmMmMm Delicious!
Tagging isn't too new of a concept to me. Ive been doing it on Facebook and Myspace for a while. i love the idea, it makes it so much easier to identify things.
The library's tag cloud was a good idea. It will help people find out information on the items they like quickly and efficiently.

The Library on Facebook and Myspace
Well I already have both a Myspace and a Facebook, and I like them both. If I had to choose though, I would choose Facebook, it's less "flash" more fact. Both of them serve as awesome social networks however, I think the reason for that is, well, people like to gossip and talk. These websites just make it that much easier.
I looked at the library's page Facebook and both of it's pages on Myspace. I honestly think that just having those profiles is most of what it can do to promote itself. Other than that, all I can think of is advertising their Myspace/Facebook web pages more. People are, in my experience, more likely to visit a web page for information than they are to call or visit in person.
My two favorite parts of the MMSCL myspace pages were the "shelfari" on the general page, and the calendar on the teen page. The Shelfari works great to promote new books to the general adult public, and the calendar clearly lays out anything upcomming for teens to do.

So i just used Twitter for the first time. I even made my own account and and sent a tweet of my own. I must admit however that i am not a very big fan, i understand what they're trying to do, but i don't like how they approached doing it.
If you've heard of twitter before and still really want to try it, its pretty easy. just sign up and post in the box on top.
This is what i posted :
I just finished watching Reign Over Me, with Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle. It's not a typical Adam sandler movie, a definite must see.

First
Good evening everyone.
This is my first entry in the blog. The whole reason i even made this blog was to complete a program entitled Web 2.0 for work. Ive always been a big fan of the internet and considered myself well versed in it's etiquette, but I'm sure there are still so many things for me to learn and hopefully this program will help. So far so good.
